Rare Tibetan Painting

This very rare Tibetan painting measures 4 feet x 5 feet and is painted on traditional cloth with natural pigments. This painting hung in a Buddhist temple in Tibet until the Dalai Lama and many monks and teachers escaped during the 1959 Chinese invasion. The piece was cut from its traditional brocade border, rolled up and carried by mule over the Himalayas to India by a Buddhist Lama (monk/teacher). This type of painting is very rare and would never be seen outside a Buddhist temple. The treacherous journey adds to the intrigue of the piece.

The painting remained with the Lama until the 80s when he died and his daughter sold it.

It was acquired by Patricia Bukur 23 years ago and has been meticulously cared for (framed under glass to stop deterioration). The piece has been blessed by some of the most renowned Tibetan and Bhutanese Rinpoches (Tibetan teachers). It is thought to be a yogic piece representing transformation as depicted by the central Buddha in Sambogakaya form (elaborate state of enlightenment). The flying yogis in the sky and the sun and moon, are classic symbol of tantric transformation.

Patricia is seeking a museum that would add this very rare piece to its collection as she feels it should be seen by those seeking transformation of all afflictions.

Until then, archival quality prints in various sizes are available.

24x30 (recommended size) to capture the detail on museum quality paper.

10% of each sale will be donated to charity.

Patricia is an artist and Jungian depth psychologist in Colorado. She has studied with some of the world’s great spiritual teachers including Tibetan rinpoches and Taoist masters.

In 2007, Patricia and a small team built a stupa at the former Aspen residence of Senator Feinstein. Patricia was primarily responsible for painting the gau (top gold leaf portion) and the Buddha inside. It was treacherous and very precise work, painting on a ladder at the top of the 40ft stupa for many weeks. The Dalai Lama visited the property on multiple occasions over the years.
